GENERAL RULES FOR STATIC EXHIBITS
Static Exhibit Check-in: Tuesday, July 29, 4–8 p.m. (Ag Society Hall)
Static Exhibit Judging (not open to the public): Wednesday, July 30, 8 a.m. (Ag Society Hall)
Open to the Public: Thursday, July 31–Sunday, Aug. 3, 10 a.m.–9 p.m. — except Sunday closes at 8 p.m. (Ag Society Hall)
Release Time: Monday, Aug. 4, 7–11 a.m. (Ag Society Hall)
All exhibits which don’t move on their own (for example, Food & Nutrition; Photography; and Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) are called static exhibits. At the Super Fair, 4-H & FFA static exhibits are showcased in the Ag Society Hall — which is air-conditioned.
All 4-H static exhibit projects are open to all 4-H members ages 8–18 (by Jan. 1 of the current year), unless otherwise stated (see page 15 for Clover Kids Static Exhibits open to 4-H members ages 5–7).
EACH INDIVIDUAL IS LIMITED TO 1 ENTRY PER CLASS NUMBER. A specific project can only be entered in 1 category or class — except Fashion Show garments, which must also be entered in the Static Exhibit clothing.
Projects must have been completed during the current 4-H year.
NO exhibits allowed with references or components related to alcoholic beverages. They will be disqualified.
For your reference, Nebraska 4-H has many scoresheets available for state-fair-eligible classes linked in the State Fair Fairbook at https://4h.unl.edu/4-h-fairbook-nebraska-state-fair.
Static Exhibit Check-In
All Lancaster County Super Fair 4-H & FFA static exhibits are not preregistered, but MUST be physically checked in during Static Exhibit Check-In on Tuesday, July 29 between 4 and 8 p.m. at the Sandhills Global Event Center, 84th & Havelock in the Ag Society Hall. An adult — such as a club leader or parent(s) — should assist 4-H members in entering exhibits.
In the Ag Society Hall, exhibits are grouped into the following areas designated by signage:
- Clover Kids
- General Areas (includes Quilt Quest, Shooting Sports and animal static exhibits)
- Photography
- Visual Arts
- Home Design & Restoration (includes Heritage and Human Development)
- Clothing
- Food & Nutrition
- Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (includes Safety, Bicycles and FFA)
- Outdoor Adventures
- Horticulture (includes Agronomy, Conservation & Wildlife and Forestry)
A registration table is set up for each of the project areas — please take project(s) to the appropriate area(s). All entry tags, additional supporting information, recipe cards, data tags, etc. MUST be attached at this time.
Static Exhibit Entry Tags/Cards
Mark the exhibitor’s name, county and age on EACH static exhibit in case entry tags are separated from the project.
EACH static exhibit must have a 4-H Static Exhibit Entry Tag attached. All entry tags must be completely filled out or the exhibit will not be accepted or judged. Check on the entry tag if it is to be interview judged and/or in the Fashion Show.
Some classes require additional information — see Fair Book for detailed entry requirements for each class. Specific tags/cards are required to be completed and attached to the following exhibits:
- Home Design & Restoration Supporting Information Tag for each Home Design & Restoration exhibit. Information on this tag may be provided on a half sheet of paper. Note: “Quilt Designs Other Than Fabric” exhibits also use this tag.
- Visual Arts Supporting Information Tag for each Visual Arts exhibit. Information on this tag may be provided on a full or half sheet of paper.
- Food Preservation Card for each Food Preservation item.
- Photography Data Tag for each Photography exhibit.
- Clothing Design Data Card for some Upcycled and Beyond the Needle classes.
- Fiber Arts Knitting and Crochet Data Cards for Knitting and Crochet Level 2 & 3 classes.
It is highly encouraged to either pick up tags/cards at the Extension office or download them at https://lancaster.unl.edu/4h/fair/static and fill them out beforehand; however, all tags/cards will be available during check-in. (Exception: Static Exhibit Entry Tag is not available for download because it is a carbon-copy triplicate.)
Static Exhibit Release
All 4-H & FFA static exhibits will be released on Monday, Aug. 4, 7–11 a.m. in the Ag Society Hall. All static exhibits MUST be picked up during release time.
Premium payouts for static exhibits will be paid in cash on Monday, Aug. 4, 7–11 a.m. in the Ag Society Hall.
Please pick up premium payouts BEFORE picking up static exhibits. Staff at the payout table will provide a list of each 4-H member's static exhibits, which will help families collect all of their projects without leaving any behind.
Please pick up project(s) at each of the area(s) you have exhibits.
Use of Copywritten Images
Copyrighted writing, artwork, videos and images may be used in 4-H educational exhibits under Fair Use for educational purposes of Copyright Law. In order to qualify for Fair Use, 4-H members must: 1) only use a small amount of the copy-written work, 2) add new meaning to the work to make it original, 3) rework it and use it in a totally different way and 4) use it for nonprofit purposes (not to make money). Giving credit to the original creator is also recommended.
Premier Science Award
Super Fair 4-H judges may recognize up to 2 static exhibits that incorporate or demonstrate concepts from the areas of 4-H Science with a county-level 4-H Premier Science Award. An exhibit may come from any static exhibit area.
To apply for the Premier Science Award at the State Fair, 4‑H members must self-nominate ONE exhibit from any static exhibit project entered at a county fair that qualifies for State Fair, and submit an online application at https://go.unl.edu/NSFPremierScienceApp by Friday, Aug. 15 at 12 p.m. Exhibit must relate to the scientific method or engineering design process while completing the exhibit. If a 4-H’er was awarded a county-level 4-H Premier Science Award, they will still need to self-nominate their exhibit for State Fair. County staff may not nominate exhibits.
More information is at https://go.unl.edu/4h-premier-science-award.
Note: For Cat, Dog, Dairy/Pygmy Goat, Horse, Household Pet, Poultry and Rabbit Static Exhibits, look under the respective Animal Exhibit categories for classes.
