Pests can affect anyone — whether they are in your home, bothering your pets, or damaging structures. Helping Nebraskans adopt pest management practices to reduce pests in urban areas, Nebraska Extension aims to educate and engage community members to increase awareness and use best, sustainable pest management practices of insects and insect relatives.

Nit Kits

Through a teach-the-teacher approach, early childhood and school professionals are trained on how to manage and prevent the spread of head lice. The Nit Kit program also provides guidance to develop policies that are rooted in science to prevent school days lost due to head lice. Contact us for more information!

All About Bed Bugs

1 in 5 Americans has encountered a bed bug or knows someone who has. We offer presentations and hands-on workshops for homeowners, renters, businesses, and pest management, healthcare and school professionals, and anyone else at risk of a bed bug introduction or infestation. Tick Tag Go

Under the slogan of "Check Yourself," Nebraska Extension's tick awareness and education campaign aims to prevent tick bites and tick-borne illness. The Tick Tag Go program also collects tick data across Nebraska via community submissions to help map tick species and raise awareness on ticks.

Insect & Spider Diagnostic Services

Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County offers insect and spider diagnostic services, including identification and management recommendations. Residents may mail or bring their samples in a sealed, transparent bag to 444 Cherrycreek Road, Suite A, Lincoln, NE 68528 during office hours M-F, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Please address any envelopes to Kait Chapman. You may also email photos to kchapman13@unl.edu. Please submit this Insect Specimen Submission form with any samples. Paper forms are at the office. The cost of this service is covered by Nebraska Extension.

Kait Chapman

Extension Educator—Urban Entomology | Program Area Leader—Horticulture, Landscape, & Environmental Systems

Kait is an Extension Educator of Urban Entomology serving Cass, Otoe, Lancaster, Seward and York Counties. She is also the Program Area Leader for Horticulture, Landscape, and Environmental Systems (HLES).  Kait holds a Bachelor’s degree in Insect Science and a Master’s degree in Entomology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Kait delivers educational programs to community members on sustainable pest management practices of insects, spiders and more.
