Brett Jurgens is receiving Lancaster County 4-H’s December “Heart of 4-H Award” in recognition of outstanding volunteer service. At a young age, he helped his mother teach photography workshops, and at age 14, became a counselor at the Eastern Nebraska 4-H Center. For over 20 years, he has judged 4-H photography at the Lancaster County Super Fair, as well as other county fairs. He has also presented several photography workshops and help sessions. In 2023, he became a superintendent of 4-H Photography at the Lancaster County Super Fair.
“I love the friendships made in 4-H,” Brett said. “My best friend lives in another state. If we had not worked together at the Eastern Nebraska 4-H Center, we would never have met. I think 4-H really teaches compassion for others and great work ethic. Whether at a 4-H event or other volunteer events, I look to other 4-H volunteers because they know how to work hard.”
