Registration is required by calling 402-441-7180. Open to all 4-H members ages 9–18 (by Jan. 1 of the current year) from all counties. 4-H members choose which contest(s) to participate in and will be able to use a list of plants while identifying samples. Ribbons will be awarded at the Super Fair or mailed to exhibitors.

B127916 Grass & Weed Identification — identify weed and grass samples. See Nebraska 4‑H 2025 Weed & Grass Plant List (PDF) for a list of grass and weeds that will be used.
B127918 Horticulture Contest — identify samples of vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs and landscape ornamentals. The plant list contains plants commonly used or sold in Nebraska.
STATEWIDE CONTEST:
- Lancaster County 4-H offers statewide online Tree and Grass & Weed ID Contests open to all youth and adults. The contests will be available June 9-23, 2026.
- Nebraska 4-H offers a statewide online Horticulture Judging Contest open to all youth and adults, which tests knowledge in 3 areas: general knowledge, plant part and seed identification, as well as a judging portion. The contest will be available June 9-23, 2026.
- At the Nebraska State Fair, Nebraska 4-H offers a Horticulture Identification Contest, Tree Identification Contest and Weed & Grass Identification Contest for 4-H members ages 8–18 (by Jan. 1 of the current year). 4-H members do not need to qualify at the county contest to participate.
