See All Spotlights
Shari Bitney has been an Extension Master Gardener Volunteer for 7 years and has volunteered over 200 hours. Shari has mentored new volunteers, taught youth how to garden and answered phone questions.
Why did you become an EMGV?
When I retired from teaching at LPS, I wanted to go through the training to become a Master Gardener. I’ve been able to combine my love of working with children and my love of gardening in this role.
If you could encourage someone else to volunteer, what would you say?
Volunteering is an educational experience; I’m always learning new things, either through training, answering the Master Gardener phone at the extension office, from my fellow volunteers or even the kids I work with. Volunteering in an area where you have a special interest is very meaningful. It feels good to share your knowledge and to work alongside others who have a similar interest. It feels good to know you’re helping others in your community!
