
Lancaster County 4-H presents a Heart of 4-H Award to a Lancaster County 4-H volunteer each month in recognition of outstanding volunteer service. The purpose of this award is to recognize volunteers who are, indeed, the heart of 4-H.

Kent Kennedy is receiving Lancaster County 4‑H’s September “Heart of 4‑H Award” in recognition of outstanding volunteer service. Since 2020, he has helped with the 4‑H Shooting Sports program as a project leader and a certified pistol instructor for the Lincoln Shooting Stars 4‑H club. He also assists with BB gun and air rifle. Kent volunteers at the annual 4‑H Shooting Sports National Championships, which has been held in Grand Island for the past 4 years. From 1977 to 2000, he helped with the 4‑H and FFA State Tractor Operators Contest held during the State Fair.
Kent says, “I like being a 4‑H volunteer because I know the youth are trained to handle firearms safely. I also like seeing them enjoy shooting sports, improving their ability to shoot safely and accurately, while improving their ability to concentrate.”
