Lancaster County 4‑H is proud to announce Lorene Bartos of Lincoln as winner of the October “Heart of 4‑H Award” in recognition of outstanding volunteer service.

An Extension Educator Emeritus, Lorene has continued to contribute to the 4‑H program since she retired from Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County in 2015, such as being a 4‑H Clover College instructor. As a member of Lincoln Center Kiwanis, Lorene helps coordinate the club’s ongoing support of Lancaster County 4‑H through sponsoring the Outstanding 4‑H Club Awards and a 4‑H college scholarship. Kiwanis also hosts an annual Kiwanis Karnival at Elliott Elementary with the help of 4‑H clubs. Lorene is the lead organizer of the Karnival and Outstanding 4‑H Club Awards, often attending the annual 4‑H Achievement Celebration.

“4‑H gives youth the opportunity to choose areas they are interested in,” she says. “I enjoy watching youth grow through the years and as they become adults and leaders in the community, sharing their skills with others. 4‑H has been a part of my life since I was 8 years old and has helped me take leadership roles in many organizations. Kiwanis’ mission is to change the world one child and one community at a time.”
