Seeking Expert Sewers

Adults and youth with high-level sewing skills may help by sewing hats. 4-H youth, former Extension/Family & Community Education club members and other community members may help! Since the finished products need to be sturdy for multi-use by medical professionals, the workmanship of the hats needs to be of the highest quality possible. Consequently, beginner or intermediate sewers are exempt from this effort.

Kits With Fabric

If you wish to participate, here is the procedure:

  • Kits containing fabric, elastic, 'Sewer Info Sheet' and instructions to make 10 surgical hats may be picked up at the Lancaster Extension Education Center lobby at 444 Cherrycreek Road, Lincoln (hours Monday – Friday, from 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m.). Kits are now available after hours in the Extension Drop Off Box outside the front entrance. This is strictly a drop-off and pick-up point. No staff will be available and the Extension office is closed to the walk-in public.
  • Email Kristin Geisert at kristin.geisert@unl.edu to reserve the number of kits (10 hats per kit) you wish to pick up.
  • Fill out a Sewer Info Sheet before you drop off the hats.

  • Make sure to wash, dry and press your fabric before cutting out the pattern pieces.
