How would you like to come home and have most of your meal already prepared? Or, perhaps, you’d like to avoid staying up late or getting up early to fix food for a special event? And save some money by preparing more of your meals?

Alice Henneman, extension educator and registered dietitian with UNL Lancaster County Extension, will teach you how to freeze foods for future meals. You’ll receive an extensive booklet giving specific freezing directions for common foods. Plus, you’ll receive several recipe ideas for make-ahead foods.
Here are some of the things you'll learn:
- What to be aware of when selecting freezing/baking materials and containers
- Tips and recipes for preventing "warmed over" flavor when freezing cooked meat
- Tthe secret to successfully freezing mashed potatoes
- Light & tender muffins from your freezer, made with whole wheat pastry flour
- Freezer roll recipe and why your rolls may benefit by "taking their temperature" before removing them from the oven!
- Why mayonnaise doesn't work in freezing sandwiches and what does
- Variations on a theme, using one recipe and 4 variations
- A total of 35 pages of tips, times and temperatures for freezing various prepared foods!
“Freezing Foods for Future Use” will be presented Thursday, September 11, 7–8:30 p.m. at the Plaza Conference Center, BryanLGH Medical Center East, 1600 South 48 Street, Lincoln. No cost to attend. Preregistration is requested. Register by calling BryanLGH at 481-8886.
