ANSWER: The padded feet of a Polyphemus Caterpillar

Polyphemus moths are found throughout the United States. These beautiful moths feed on a variety of tree species found locally - oaks, maples, willow and more. There are usually few caterpillars on one tree so the trees don't suffer from any damage. Polyphemus moths are one of the easiest moths to raise because the food for the caterpillars is easy to find right in our own backyards and neighborhoods. Learn how you can raise butterflies & moths
