Activities that You Have Shared

(strengths, skills, behaviors, living conditions which contribute
to healthy family functioning and resiliency). Special

activities that help bond their families:

have to bond.--The Granger Family (Tully, New York)

family even though our oldest is in college, still takes one
vacation together each year.--The Hardy Family (Midland, Michigan)
We
always try to do activities together, although it is getting
harder as the kids get older. Everyone is involved in some
aspect of the activity. All major decisions that affect our
family are discussed by everyone. Before we made a move to
a new community and school, we sat down and talked about it.
Everyone had to agree to it before we made the move. My husband
and I have always treated our kids as a person who deserves
our respect and consideration. We don't talk down to our kids.
We let our kids know they are special and a vital part of
our family. We let them make as many decisions in their life
as is appropriate. We have the final say, if necessary, if
it involves their safety or well being. We tell our kids we
love them everyday and always try to start the morning out
without any disagreements if possible.--The Mayberry Family
(Marquette, Nebraska)
Our
family is rather too busy.We appreciate love, music and science.
Each of us is trying to achieve his/her goal and enjoy his/her
life;also, has his/her own friends that help him/her in some
ways.We enjoy spending our free time with relatives and friends.
We all appreciate our God for being.--The Esmaieli Family
(Tehran)
The
women of my family are stay at home moms and we all live on
the same street. Every morning we wake up and go to our parents
house to eat breakfast and spend the morning talking. And
on special occasions, we meat at their house for celebrations.--The
Bordelon Family (Albany, Lousiana)
Our
family takes regular trips to the Adirondacks during the summer
to spend time with my uncle, aunt, and cousin. We take the
boat out, play cards, have a barbeque, and have fun all together."--The
Martin Family (Oneonta, NY)
Our
family has a "junk food night" every Friday. We
eat very healthfully all week and this one night lets us let
our hair down a little bit. We usually end up eating on the
living room floor picnic style. After we clean up we all lay
on the floor and watch tv or a movie together. It's a good
way to get rid of the stresses of the week and reconnect together
in a very fun and inexpensive manner.--The Mott Family (Worcester,
NY)

and going to movies, we spend alot of time together, we are

family has "F" Day. This is a day that comes to
unite the family more during hectic times or just to have
fun. All members are required to attend and when the 4 children
were really young there was no extras allowed, but as the
children grew into teens once a year one of them was allowed
to invite a friend to take part in our "F" Days.
By the way "F" stands for FAMILY!--The Mudge Family
(Maryland, NY)
Every
Friday evening, our family celebrates Shabbat together. We
light the candles and say our blessings. We play music and
dance together. Then we have dinner and usually watch a movie
or play for the evening.--The Glassman Family (Peru, Illinois)
As
a family we get together to watch our favorite show or dance
around, tell jokes or stories. we all enjoy the time spent
together and value each special minute. With daddy being a
marine, time is precious.--The Hazel Family (California)

our week.--The Listerman Family (Republic, MO)

every night my dad (who is 86) comes over to enjoy our 9 month
old daughter Madison. She has brought a whole new meaning
to his life since my mom passed away. Our family activities
are many and would take up to much room!--The Ruege Family

Our
family has regular game nights. We play cards, board games,
or charades.--The Kaderly Family (Lincoln, Nebraska)
We
have always enjoyed camping at a nearby lake. When the children
were younger it was sometimes a lot of work to prepare for
the trips, but the memories our family shares from those camping
trips are priceless. Now the children are teenagers and a
young adult and we find it hard to schedule camping trips
everyon can go on, but still try for one family camping trip
a summer. We enjoy camping with friends and their families
to share the laughs. One of our favorite stories is about
the time it took us an hour or more to cook hot dogs as the
wind kept blowing out the camp stove. We were straving that
night but have laughed about it ever since.--The Pearman Family
(Mullen, Nebraska)
In
my family we go to the mall just to get away from the house.
We also go out to eat dinner every sunday at different restaurants.

We
love to build a small fire in the back yard, roast hot dogs
and talk.--The Kurchak Family (Akron, Ohio)
We
like to barbecue alot. Even when it is not so nice. We also
like to sit by a bonfire at night and roast marshmallows.--The
Bollig Family (Saint Edward, NE)
Our
family enjoys playing ball together and we enjoy learning
our number and names. We enjoy as parents being able to teach
our children all about life.--The Oliver Family (Lewistown,
PA)
As
a family we do family game nights, As of April 1st we will
be moved into our first house ---and we have a basketball
hoop and we plan on having nightly games of basketball before
bed. We eat dinner together nightly. Both of our kids are
in sports but they are in different sports at different times.
So as a family we all attend practices and games to cheer
and support the other. We do not just drop them off for practice
and come back when it is over. We stay out there and support
them. That is what I love about my husband and I are kids
always come first.--The Schrotberger Family (Lincoln, NE)
"Our
family cooks and eats together everynight. This gives us each
time to feel like we contributed to the supper and then prepare
everyone to enjoy the meal as a family afterwards. Everyone
works with a job to do and then all relax and appreciate the
food together as a family. This makes going out to eat even
more special since you then skip the usual work and go to
the togetherness. Fun
for us is simply doing things together whether that be camping,
going on walks, painting one big picture as a group, playing
games inside or outside, seeing a movie, play, or sporting
event. But bottom line enjoying life as a family so that when
things get rough we remain as a family no matter what has
gone wrong or needs to be "tackled"."--The
Johnson Family (Lincoln, Nebraska)
"With
all three daughters in high school and each involved in several
activities, time together is difficult to find. The one most
common time that we are all at home at the same time is breakfast.
Even though they can do it themselves and I need to get up
before everyone else, I always make breakfast for the girls.
I feel it is worth the effort. Their dad is available at that
time, too, until the girls leave for school. This may not
be the ideal situation because we are all different and not
all morning people, but even the mornings that we sit in silence
while eating, we are left with a feeling of family to carry
with us throughout the day."--The Anderson Family (Armstrong,
Iowa)
"Every
evening (weather permitting) our family plays croquet, badmitten,
horseshoes and other outdoor games directly after dinner and
find that it builds a strong family unit as well as good exercise.
We call it "Family Time". -- The Booher Family
"Our
family travels a lot throughout the year, employment also
takes us out of town a lot, and we do love cookouts during
our warmer weather conditions. We love playing cards together
which also enables time for conversation. Also, we enjoy
bike riding together. In all, we are an active family."--The
Jabonaski Family
