Milk is more than just calcium for your bones:

  • The protein in milk adds satiety to meals and snacks. By helping you feel full longer, milk and other dairy products aid in weight control.

  • Milk is an inexpensive, nutrient dense food. In addition to calcium, milk also provides protein, vitamin D, riboflavin, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B-12, niacin and phosphorus.

  • The DASH (Dietary Pproaches to Stop Hypertension) eating plan has been found to help prevent and control high blood pressure. It is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and recommends 2 to 2 servings daily of low-fat or fat-free milk, yogurt of reduced-fat cheeses.

The DASH plan also emphasizes foods that are low in saturated fat, cholesterol, total fat and added sugars.

As a fun way to encourage younger children to include milk in meals, serve "Pudding Faces" for dessert or snacks. Make with a favorite flavor of instant pudding and fat-free milk.

Let children decorate their own pudding face using such add-on as raisins, grapes, apple wedges, almonds, orange slices, blueberries, craisins, chocolate chips and bananas.
