Lancaster County Fair Updates for ALL Project Areas (March 15)

4-H RESOURCES AVAILABLE ONLINE:
- Do you need resources about conducting a 4-H meeting, club officers, 4-H projects and more? Check out the Lancaster County 4-H Web site http://lancaster.unl.edu/4h/club

LIFE CHALLENGE CONTESTS: 4-H Life Challenge judging contests help youth learn more about issues related to family and consumer science (FCS). Contests are open to all 4-H’ers, need not be enrolled in a specific project. Preregistration is not needed for the county level contests. Contact Tracy Kulm at 441-7180 for more information.
** STATEWIDE FCS LIFE CHALLENGE (for ages 12 and up) will be held Monday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 1 on UNL East Campus. To participate, please contact Tracy at 441-7180 by June 9. Information is online at http://pase.unl.edu

DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO MIGHT HELP START A NEW 4-H CLUB? In Lancaster County, there are currently far more youth wanting to be in 4-H clubs than there are clubs. Do you know anyone who might like to help start a 4-H club? Tell them about 4-H and have them find out more information at http://lancaster.unl.edu/4h or call extension at 441-7180.
CLASSIC CARS R US INVITES NEW MEMBERS: Do you like cars, especially older ones? Share your interest with other like-minded 4-H'ers! Classic Cars R Us 4-H Club explores various eras and aspects of the automobile. Club activities range from tracing the history of the automobile, building and/or restoring models, and attending car shows. The club usually meets on Friday evenings or Saturdays. CLOTHING LEVEL 2 REMINDER: Difficult, challenging fabrics should NOT be used for Clothing Level 2 projects.
Creating a First Aid Kit is a Good Way to Teach Youth First Aid Basics. Resource (316 KB) (First aid kit can be entered in the fair under "Safety - Citizen Safety" on p. 49)
4-H PHOTOGRAPHY THEME EXHIBITS: Nebraska 4-H has announced the themes for the Nebraska Theme Exhibit Print classes for the 2008 County and State Fairs:
- UNIT II - Nebraska Theme Exhibit Print--“Celebrating Citizenship.” May be taken with digital camera.
- UNIT III - Nebraska Theme Exhibit Print--“Go For Gold” (in celebration of the Nebraska 4-H Foundation’s 50th Anniversary). May be taken with digital camera.
FAIR BOOK FORESTRY CORRECTION: There will be no 4-H Forestry interview judging (Lancaster County Fair Book p. 38) available this year.
FAIR BOOK BROWNIE CENTS CHANGE: The 4-H curriculum book, "Six Easy Bites," has been revised. For the fair project, "Brownie Cents" see page 22. If you have the older book, refer to page 16.

Free Sewing Help on Wednesdays: Lancaster County 4-H and Bernina Sewing Center are partnering to provide 4-H members free expert sewing help. Every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. youth are welcome to bring their sewing machines and 4-H projects. 4-H members can sew and have their questions answered by experts. If your sewing machine does not make good buttonholes or will not sew through six layers of denim, then there are classroom machines available for rental. The Bernina Sewing Center is located inside Hancock Fabrics, 6800 P St., Lincoln.
