Grace
Farley was chosen as a Store Winner for the Kohl's Kids Who CareŽ
Recognition Program. She is mentioned in an in-store poster at
the Lincoln Kohl's store on display through September.
Grace
received the award for her role as a 4-H Junior Leader and mentor
for the Star City Explorers 4-H Club, a group consisting of nine
and 10-year-old boys. She is 12 years old and has been the club's
Junior Leader for two years.
At
the club's monthly meetings, Grace demonstrates how to complete
projects, leads creative games and assists in meeting leadership.
She recommends topics for meetings and is willing to help as needed.
Grace took on responsibility for preparing and leading one entire
meeting last year.
As
a 4-H'er who is also involved in her own projects, she also leads
by example.
Through
her 4-H club, Sunshine Clover Kitties, Grace volunteers for many
community service projects including: collecting food for the
4-H Can Fight Hunger Food Drive, assisting with planning and staffing
a booth at the Kiwanis Karnival, making scarves for the Peoples
City Mission and donating books to the Tabitha Nursing/Daycare
Center.
In March, Grace attended the 2003 Volunteer Leaders Forum at the
State 4-H Camp near Halsey with her mother, Denise. Grace sang
the National Anthem at "Discover 4-H" night at the Lincoln Saltdogs
on June 20.
"I
have been in 4-H most of my life and it is a part of my life and
I am happy to represent it," said Grace. As a fourth generation
4-H'er, she recognizes the importance of volunteer leadership
in building youth through the 4-H program and often speaks of
passing the legacy on to her children.
The
Kohl's Kids Who CareŽ volunteer recognition program recognizes
the efforts of young people who contribute in special ways to
their local communities. Kohl's created the program in 2001 to
reward youth for their outstanding volunteer efforts and to encourage
others to follow their lead.
